Cleaning up dropped litter such as cigarette butts, fast food wrappers and chewing gum is a major financial burden to many local authorities, including us.

We are committed to fighting environmental crime and taking action against those responsible to enable residents to feel proud and safe of the area they live in, and to encourage visitors to respect the district.

Littering

If you are caught littering you may be issued with a fixed penalty notice (FPN) of £150.

Failure to pay an FPN could lead to you being prosecuted and ordered to pay the penalty, plus a fine of up to £2,500 and legal costs.

Littering from a vehicle

Under the Littering From Vehicles Outside London (Keepers Civil Penalty) Regulation 2018, if you are caught littering from a vehicle it is the responsibility of the vehicle keeper - even if the litter is discarded by a passenger.

Following a report of an incident, and if we have sufficient evidence, you will be issued with a fixed penalty notice of £150.

Report littering

Drivers (or their passengers) seen dropping litter from a vehicle can be traced via the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) and will receive an FPN through the post or will be asked to attend an interview under caution.

How you can help us tackle litter

• report any littering using the form above

• use the litter bins provided or take your litter home to put in your bin

• don’t drop chewing gum - wrap it up and put it in a bin

• if you notice a litter problem, please let us know and we will look into it.
