Our market towns are full of small and medium-sized independent retailers that make our towns special. Our local businesses support local jobs, which is essential for successful towns. We can all vote with our feet to support our markets and shops.

Our local businesses have made preparations to trade safely and preparations have been made in our high streets to encourage shoppers to return and shop safely with queue markers and posters to promote safe social distancing, being kind and patient with others.

What are you doing to help residents shop safely?

We are putting in place a number of measures, including:

  • Town Action Plans

  • free parking whilst lockdown eases

  • moving markets to create space in our town centres as they become busy

  • signage highlighting social distancing message

  • queue and queue end markers sprayed in environmentally friendly paint

  • town ambassadors at peak times to support our retailers and visitors to have a safe shopping experience

  • additional street cleaning.

Town Action Plans

These plans have been drawn up in consultation with the police and endorsed by the County Council Highways team. They have been developed in partnership with the relevant town councils, Huntingdonshire Business Against crime, BID Huntingdon as well as District Council officers from Planning, Licensing, Parking, Economic Development, Environmental Health and Street Cleansing.
