A privately rented home is often the most realistic housing option available to people who cannot afford, or do not want, to buy a home.
Before privately renting a property, you should find out about your rights as a tenant and the landlord’s responsibilities. Knowing what type of rental contract has been signed, how much a property will cost to heat and where the deposit has been stored are all important.
Homes to rent
Landlords and property letting agencies advertise homes to let on their websites and in local newspapers.
We also have a page on this website where landlords can advertise homes to rent:

Housing benefit for private renting tenants
Housing benefit for private-renting tenants will be set at either the actual rent charged or at the Local Housing Allowance rate for your household’s circumstances, whichever is the lower figure. The rate is based on the number of people in your household and their ages. It can be reduced depending on your household’s income, savings and other circumstances.
The Local Housing Allowance rates are set by the Valuation Agency on 1 April every year.
