Our Health Walk scheme wouldn’t exist without our fantastic volunteers, who lead health walks around the district and provide encouragement and information to walkers.
What makes a good volunteer walk leader?
The main skill we look for from our volunteers is an enthusiasm for walking and its benefits! We would also like our volunteers to be:
-
observant - able to recognise/report risks or hazards
-
punctual and reliable
-
patient - this is particularly important for back marker walk leaders who need to motivate the slower walkers
-
organised with good communication skills
-
approachable.
What are the benefits of becoming a volunteer?
Benefits include:
-
free health walk leader training
-
free first aid training
-
insurance cover
-
resources to assist with health walks, such as rucksacks and first aid kits
-
the chance to become an active member of the local scheme
-
satisfaction from helping others to access and enjoy the benefits of walking.
