Play areas, outdoor gyms and skateparks operated by Huntingdonshire District Council are set to reopen across Huntingdonshire from Saturday 4 July, in line with the latest government guidance.

We are pleased to support sporting sessions in open spaces, allowing private operators to use the space for fitness classes and personal training sessions for free until the end of March next year. All we ask is they are booked and have measures for safe training in place.

Work to reopen 38 play areas and 2 skate parks across the district is underway so that they are inspected to ensure they are safe for use again. Signs will be in place at all sites advising how to use them safely.

These include but are not limited to:

  • when entering and using facilities, remain 2 metres apart from anyone outside your household
  • follow social distancing guidelines - no congregating if meeting with groups of up to six people from different households
  • practice good hygiene by cleaning hands before and after play
  • if HDC staff or contractors are working in the play areas or skate parks, no play must be undertaken until advertised.

Cllr Ryan Fuller, Executive Leader of Huntingdonshire District Council, said: "It is great news that at long last our play areas, skate parks and outdoor gyms can reopen for use by residents. Their closure highlighted how much people enjoy and benefit from their use. Accessible outdoor spaces go a long way in providing well-being and health benefits to local people and their safe reopening is very welcome."

One Leisure has also reopened some outside activities, including tennis, walking sports and outdoor fitness classes. Class numbers are limited and must be booked in advance. For details on activities, classes and timetables, visit One Leisure.

Please note for football – in line with government and FA guidance, parks are open for free football training. However, at present matches are not permitted.
